Eagles star just banked extra cash for his big game against the Rams

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is set to make extra money this season and next season — and more could be coming — thanks to Barkley’s huge night Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
Entering the game, Barkley had rushed for 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns while catching 23 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns, totaling 1,347 yards from scrimmage. By rushing for a franchise-record 255 yards and catching another four passes for 47 yards, Barkley has now accumulated 1,682 yards from scrimmage.
In the three-year contract Barkley signed this offseason, a clause is included that if he reaches 1,500 yards from scrimmage, he will receive an extra $250,000. Not only will Barkley earn that money for this season’s performance, but $250,000 will also be added to his base salary next season. Barkley can earn another $250,000 this year and next year if he reaches 2,000 scrimmage yards.

With the way Barkley has been playing, he could be in line for other escalators. For instance, if he is named a first-team All-Pro, Barkley will earn $500,000. He could also receive $250,000 if he is named to the Pro Bowl or second-team All-Pro. Both are possibilities, as he currently leads the league in scrimmage yards and rushing yards, at least until Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry plays Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Eagles would gladly pay these incentives, especially given how the offense has looked since the bye week, focusing on the run game and play-action. Against the Rams, the Eagles utilized the run-pass option effectively. This becomes harder to defend when defenses have to focus on stopping Barkley in the run game, which opens passing opportunities for quarterback Jalen Hurts to target wide receiver A.J. Brown or tight end Dallas Goedert. Together, Brown and Goedert have combined for 11 catches, 121 yards, and a touchdown.
