Who is Jackson Jobe? MLB’s top pitcher prospect heading to Detroit

The Detroit Tigers are receiving a boost to their pitching staff for their playoff push.
The Tigers are reportedly calling up top pitching prospect Jackson Jobe, a right-hander with an electric fastball and a devastating slider. Jobe, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2021 MLB draft out of Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is the No. 6 overall prospect and No. 1 pitching prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

Jobe was recently called up to Triple-A, spending most of the season with Double-A Erie. In 91 2/3 innings across three minor-league levels this season, the 6-foot-2 pitcher has a 2.36 ERA with 96 strikeouts.
Jobe’s callup shows the Tigers are expediting the process with their top pitcher prospect, whom they feel is ready to contribute as the team looks primed for its first playoff appearance in 2014. Detroit has battled all the way to the No. 2 position in the American League Wild Card race, tied with the Kansas City Royals and ahead of the Minnesota Twins.

Jobe is a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, who the Tigers announced Monday is being called up to the MLB roster for their upcoming series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jobe, the No. 6 overall prospect and No. 1 pitching prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, was the No. 3 overall pick of the 2021 MLB draft out of Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City. He was originally committed to Ole Miss before deciding to sign with Detroit for a $6.9 million bonus.
The 6-foot-2 pitcher recorded a 2.36 ERA across three levels this season, with 73 2/3 innings coming in Double-A. He recently made the move to Triple-A, where he pitched nine innings with seven strikeouts and a 6.0 ERA.
According to MLB Pipeline, Jobe’s arsenal includes an elite slider that’s graded at a 70, along with a near-elite fastball that’s given a 65 grade. He also throws a changeup and a cutter, both of which are graded above average.
Jobe was named the 2021 High School Player of the Year by Baseball America, as he finished the season with a 9-0 record with an unreal 0.14 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings.
